Moliff, Russia - where is it? #general
Asparagirl <asparagirl@...>
Rebecca (Rifka) NEEDLEMAN KROKOFF, was born July 7, 1900 in Moliff, Russia
to Morris NEEDLEMAN and Nessa HERSHKOWITZ / HERSHOWITZ. Where is Moliff, Russia? Attempts to use JewishGen's ShtetlSeeker have yielded a number of similiar-sounding place names (including the lovely-sounding city of "Mylove" ), but none that seem to match. Keep in mind, too, that "Russia" in 1900 (at the time of her birth) isn't the same as Russia today. Rebecca/Rifka's husband Murray KROKOFF's family was >from the Podalia Gubernia, near Kiev, in the Ukraine, so maybe the town was near there, but I don't know if she married him before or after they were in NYC, so perhaps it wasn't. <sigh> Any help would be much appreciated! - Brooke Schreier asparagirl at dca dot net Philadelphia, PA

One of the other known alternative names for Mogilev was "Molev".
from this "Moliff" probably was born.Alexander Sharon Calgary, Alberta "Dr Shimon Barak" wrote: Stan Goodman wrote: Try looking up "Mogilev" or "Mohilev"Probably Stan is right (especially since Mogilev Podolsky was in Podolia)
