What does HaLevi mean on a Tombstone #general
John & Diana Terry <jterry@...>
Dear Fellow Researchers
Can someone kindly tell me what HALEVI means on the Tombstone of an Ancestor of mine. The wording reads:- "Abraham son of Szmul HaLevi" My Ancestor was Sam Isaacs and so the SZMUL part is correct but the HaLevi is unclear. Is it a Title or another surname? I should be so grateful for any help. Thank you in advance. HaLevi means "the Levite". The Levites were the tribe which assisted the
priests (Kohenim) in the days of the Temple in Jerusalem. Doug Cohen Lexington, MA Note new e-mail address: DMC@dmcohen.com "John & Diana Terry" <jterry@picknowl.com.au> wrote in message Dear Fellow ResearchersAncestor of mine.
