I would trace the Shoah to 22 March 1933, when Dachau Concentration Camp
was opened.

Several concentration camps were established in 1933: besides Dachau,
Sachsenhausen, Sachsenburg, and Esterwegen (reference: Martin
Gilbert, The Atlas of Holocaust). But none was originally a Jewish
extermination camp. They were intended to intern the "enemies" and
critics of the 3rd Reich, including homosexuals, political enemies,
gipsies, socialists, mentally ills and, of course, Jews.

Dear friends,

Here are my two cents:
the French Larousse Dictionary stipulates "the Holocaust (called the Soah
by the Jews) is the extermination of the Jews by the nazis between 1939 and
1945 in the territories occupied by the military forces of the hitlerien
Reich".

Holocaust scholars generally refer to Kristallnacht, November 9, 1938
as the beginning of the Holocaust, though incidents occured prior to
that date.
