Birth records in Texas & Missouri #general

Mimi Katz <ikvot@...>

Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a birth index for
either Texas or Missouri that covers the 1880's? I am looking
for several dates of birth in those states.

Please post replies to the group.

Thank you,

I used Google with the entry Texas Birth Records and
learned that records are not available before 1903.

This will not help with your current search, but if
you should ever want Jewish vital data >from Texas
covering the years 1908-1921, I suggest the
following. Go to www.jewishgen.org Under Databases,
click on America. The last database is Houston Jewish
Herald Voice Database. During the years cited, this Houston
weekly reported life-cycle events >from across the state
of Texas. (The years 1922-1931 will soon be added to
the database, with additional years added as a small,
dedicated group of volunteers continues to work on
the project.)

Hello Mimi,
For Missouri you might try the indexes at...

http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/birthdeath/default.asp

I don't know of one for Texas, but if you know the county, you might
check the Family History Library Catalog to see what
they have on microfilm...

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp

Good luck with your search.

Mimi Katz asked about birth index for Texas or Missouri that covers the 1880s.

I think this site will give you what you want for Missouri.
It's about birth/death index pre-1909 and searchable.

Mimi,

According to the TX Dept of Health there were no records
kept in Texas until after 1903.And, according to the
information for Missouri there are only a sparse
number of such records >from 1883-1893 .

You can always check for yourself by using Cyndi's List
www.cyndislist.com scrolling down to the U.S entries,
and clicking on U.S.- Vital Records. There you will find
them all listed in alphabetic order, state by state,
with their relevant information.

Hope this will help!
