missing Ellis Island manifest #general
Joan Parker <joanparker@...>
I'm surprised the moderators didn't add as an informative moderator's note as
they sometimes do to postings, in this case, information about Steve Morse's
site under Ellis Island on JewishGen:
Direct Access to Ellis Island Manifest in One Step
There you will find:
"The links in the Ellis Island database to many of the scanned images of the
original manifests are either broken or missing (see the 400-series questions
on faq page). "
and it will give you information on how to find the missing manifest.

Searching: GOLDBERG, GOODSTEIN, BERGER-Plock, Poland/Russia and Brooklyn, NY;
PINKUS, WINOGRAD, ROSEN-Brest, Litovsk; Grodno, Russia maybe Odessa, Ukraine,
Bronx and Brooklyn, NY;
GELFAND, YEHUDIS, KATZ-Minsk, Bronx, NY, Miami and Miami Beach, FL.
Morris was frustrated when the Ellis Island on-line manifests was "missing"
If the data exists, there are other ways to get it: (I might add, the
"old fashioned way"...<g>)
1. NARA (national archives in NY and Washington)...they have the microfilm...
some of the other local branches may have them too. You can call and ask.
2. Local libraries & genealogical societies: (i've seen many at the NY public
library at 42nd st, at the NY B&G, and in the main Savannah public library)
3. Certainly the Mormon Family History Library has the microfilm
Begin with their online catalog
Select the film#. On the same web page there is a search for the nearest
library; order the film and view the manifest (if possible, print it in order
to review it later)
