The name "Uzzie" #general

Merle Kastner <merlek@...>

Dear Genners,

Would anyone have an idea what the real name of
a man known only as "Uzzie" (first name) would have been?

Any suggestions? This is a puzzle to the family.

Uzzie is a relatively modern Israeli name. It is sometimes also short for
Uziel, (My strength is G-d). There have been several Rabbinical
personalities bearing this name, as a family name, the latest being Rabbi
Uziel who was a chief Rabbi of Israel several decades ago (before 1948).
There was also a Rabbinical personality centuries ago called Yonatan ben Uziel.

==We really need to know time an place. If recent, he may have been a user
or the designer of Israel's smart and efficient submachine gun.

==Originally, it's an abbreviation of the name Uziel, which means "God is my
Strength" (as do names like Azaryah, Azriel). It's the name of one of the
archangels.

Depending on the pronunciation of "Uzzie" (either "ooh-zee" or "ah-zee"), it
could be "Uziel" or "Azriel".

Apparently he was a grandson of Levi (Exodus 6:18).
