Hello,

Always Google the Public Library for the town when looking for city directories. In
this case that would be the Free Library of Phili at: http://www.freelibrary.org/

You can searh the FAQ database and find this on how to obtain a one time free
search for a ten year period in the city directories.

I live in Buffalo, NY & went to the local library's Central (main) branch. I went
to the Genealogy room & asked the librarian if they had directories there. They had
city directories for several cities and >from several years. Philadelphia was one
of them. The directories were housed in the stacks so I had to fill out a form for
each year I wanted & then give the forms to the reference librarian. The librarian
sent the requests to the stack room & within 20 minutes the directories were in my
hands. They could only be viewed in the library, but I was able to make photo
copies of the pages I wanted. There was one >from 1867 which was very fragile, so
one should take care in handling these older books. The information I was able to
retrieve was invaluable. If there is a college or university near you it may be a
repository for city directories. You would need to call the call the school's
librar(ies) and ask the reference liberarian. Good luck.
