Origins of the name RUDERMAN #general

Liz Miller <lizdmiller@...>

Hello all,

My maiden surname is RUDERMAN. I do know that the name comes >from Ruder(Rudder) to
row as in with an oar. What I am interested in is the origin of the name. I don't
have a male relative to take a dna test. Is there anyone out there with some
suggestions? Has anyone else searched for the name Ruderman? My ancestors going
back to my ggrandparents lived in Kraisk/Kraysk/Vileika/Vilna which is now Belarus.

I appreciate any suggestions or help.

Sincerely,

Liz Ruderman Miller

I would guess that your ancestor who first took this surname made his living by
rowing, probably ferrying passengers across a river in a small rowboat.
