Oleshna #general
Jeff Curtis <jeff@...>
I am trying to discover the birth town of my great grandfather in 1859. A UK
census of 1911 records it (in smudged writing) as Oleshna (I think), Austria. All further census records refer just to Austria. The closest I have come is Oleschna/Dittel in the Volga Germany and Olesna, Czech listed in Gundacker List as P244. The town would have had a Jewish population, so that might rule out Oleschna/Dittel and I am not sure if Olesna was in Austria at the time. If the latter, is there a state archive I can contact? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Jeff Curtis MODERATOR NOTE: Please sign messages with one's full name.
