I am looking for information on Rudolph FREUND and Rosa BRAUN.
Rudolph and Rosa were married on 1 September 1897 in Manhattan.
Rudolph was born approximately 1865 in Bohemia to Abraham FREUND and
Theresa POLLAK. His brother Alois was born in Krchleby; I do not
know if Rudolph was born there too. Rudolph immigrated to the US In
Rosa was born in Hungary in 1862 to Michael WERNIZIANER and Rosa
BRAUNBERG. FamilySearch website lists the marriage and indicates
that she was a widow, thus accounting for a family name that is
different >from that of her parents.
I believe that I found the family in the 1900 census on Ancestry,
with the last name listed as Freuner, two sons >from a first marriage -
Selmer and Samuel, and a boarder. Rudolph was already naturalized by
I think that I found Rosa in the 1910 census. In this census she is
listed as the head of the house, is not living with Rudolph anymore
but she is still listed as being married. Selmer is now Selma and the
birth years for her and her brother Samuel match up. The 1910 census
shows that Rosa has been married 3 times and has had 5 children, 3 of
whom are still living. I am not sure if I have the correct person but
much of the information matches with the 1900 census.
I know that Rudolph was living in New York and alive in 1929 but I
can't seem to find him after 1900.
Any suggestions or hints would be greatly appreciated.
The name WERNIZIANER does not appear in any records in the JewishGen
Hungary database, which leads me to suspect that the name was originally
VENETIANER. Hungarian version of Michael would be Mihaly. The database
includes lots of records for BRAUNBERG and VENETIANER. I didn't find
any records that listed both names and didn't find any records for
VENETIANER Mihaly but you might look for these names in other sources. I
also suggest looking for Rosa's birthplace in passenger manifests or
Vivian Kahn, Oakland, California
