JewishGen Gazetteer < https://www.jewishgen.org/Communities/LocTown.asp > Two villages named Kudrintsy (Kudrynce), Ukraine located at 4837 2618 and 4837 2617. JewishGen Gazetteer-Radius Search < https://www.jewishgen.org/Communities/LocRad.asp > Possible village Pogorelovka 4833 2558 15.9 miles WSW of Kudrynce. Pogorelovka, Pogorl'outi, Pogoryluvka, Pogrylowka, Pohorlauti, Pohoryloowka On current Google map, town name is Pohorilivka. JewishGen Gazetteer search for sounds like Pohorlowka in Ukraine same result Pogorelovka 4833 2558. This is obviously the town you are looking for. Gesher Galicia Galician Town Locator < https://www.geshergalicia.org/galician-town-locator/ > Kudrynce was in Borszczow administrative district and Mielnica Jewish district. Per Google, Pohorilivka is in Zastavnivskyi district. Zastavna was not in Galicia but just across the border in Bukovina therefore not found in Galician Town Locator. Bette Stoop Mas USA |

Many people can't find towns in the Jewish Communities Database on
Jewishgen. Mady Land is today's version. But for all of them, I recommend the Gazetteer on Jewishgen. I always use it, as it includes *all* the places where Jews might have lived, not just the big communities. In this case, there is a long list of towns named Pohorlowka, or the more Russian spelling Pogrelowka (Russian lacks a letter with the 'h' sound). Why there are so many, I can't say, but in the US there are many common city names. So I recommend everyone use the Jewishgen Gazetteer instead of the Jewish Communities Database. Sally Bruckheimer Princeton, NJ MODERATOR NOTE: The JewishGen Gazetteer and the JewishGen Communities Database differ in several respects, which are summarized in the table here: https://www.jewishgen.org/Communities/About.htm |

Hello Genners,
I've posted 2 REINSTEIN birth records in Polish for which I need translations. They are on ViewMate at the following addresses ... https://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM66510 birth of Wigder REINSTEIN 1883 https://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM66509 birth of Lea REINSTEIN 1880 In both I'm trying to determine the correct town name, and therefore its' location of: Malke PELLER, mother of both Wigder and Lea. JRI-Poland extraction says Pohorlowka, but I cannot locate it in the town finder or communities database. The father's (Chune REINSTEIN) town is Kudrynce. I would also appreciate all other details possible-full registration and birth date, other names and/or locations. Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application. Thank you.
