Latvia Archives Material #latvia

I can't speak for the specifics on the itemized list, but FWIW, Rita
Bogdanova told me that not all archival holdings are found on the
Raduraksti website. Perhaps Christine or Martha can speak to the
specifics, since they are more aware of the Raduraksti contents
than I am.

Also, I have just finished a draft of an update to the archival research
page for the Latvia SIG website. It still has to be reviewed and
formatted by the webmaster, but I am hoping that it will be available
soon.

Dear Fellow Latvian SIGgers,

To add to Marion's post I can share my experience that some of the archival
holdings are not on the Raduraksti website.

I enlisted a private researcher in 2008, who sourced a number of Lists - I
believe Recruitment Lists - that turned out to be a very useful source of
family information. One related to Polangen, at least one other to Libau.
These weren't and aren't on the Raduraksti website.

Since my area of research was quite specific and in a sense "small", and it
met with this frankly wonderful result, it seems to me very likely that
there are more Lists not listed on the Raduraksti website.

The other issue concerns the translation of the information, whether or not
it is listed on Raduraksti. I - like many others I am sure - have already
benefitted >from Christine Usdin's extraordinary and freely given efforts.
These efforts are largely confined to Vital Records (Birth, Marriage, Death
etc.)

I wonder how we - as a SIG - can collaborate and help one another to get the
other wealth of archival records translated? I would be very interested to
read your thoughts and ideas through the medium of this List.

Warm regards to all,

Joyaa
