Dear SA SIG discussion group members,

I'm looking for information on my late great-aunt Leah (Elka?) Katz, nee
Wolpert, born ~1891 in Keidan, Lithuania and possible descendants. The
name
of her father was Notel Wolpert and her mother was Sarah-Devorah Biron.
I only know that in 1946-47 she was in South Africa (I don't knew when she
emigrated >from Lithuania) and had been in touch (several letters) with her
half-sister, my late grandmother, Rywa Trocki-Musnicki, nee Wolpert, and
with my late mother, Shifra (Sofia) Werber, nee Trocki-Musnicki, who lived
at that time in Brussels, Belgium.

My great-aunt was then - in 1947, living with her husband, Moses or
Moshe?
Katz at the following address: 49, Berea Rd. , Bertrams, Johannesburg.
However, 2 letters sent - >from Israel - in 1962 were never answered and
the
last one was even returned in January 1963 as undeliverable.

There is an estate probate file for a Leah Katz in the Transvaal archives,
but I could not find out if this is that of my great-aunt.

Moshe:

There was a Jack Wolpert who was a well-known chess player in South Africa,
even wining the South African chess championship once in 1937. Search for

wolpert chess "south africa"

and you'll find brief mentions of his records. Also lots of other Wolperts.
