Once again the Douglas E. Goldman Jewish Genealogy Center (DOROT) has
provided the Warsaw Shtetl CO-OP with extract pages >from the LDS Microfilms. The recent shipment contains Birth, Marriage and Death Records from 1836, 1840-43 and 1851. Miriam Segali, the volunteer at Dorot, hastranslated the records and hand written the information on to large ledger sheets. Volunteers are needed to enter Miriam's hand written information onto Excel Spreadsheets. You don't have to know any Polish to do this work. If you would like to volunteer please contact me. I have Excel 97 for the PC and use it regularly. I do not have an abundance of time, as I work full time, but I can take some time to help. I am researcher 1914. I also want to ask the group for some advice. I sent a letter to Warsaw requesting 10 Perlstadt documents, of which 7 were in the Warsaw archives, 2 were in the Plonsk archives and one came >from Lodz. I received the 2 Plonsk documents and the Lodz documents fairly quickly, but have not received the Warsaw documents at all. My letter was dated April 23, and probably sent a couple of days later and 6 months would have been the end of October. I had ordered documents once before and all but one came within a few weeks of receiving my receipt. Is it possible that they are waiting for the documents that were sent directly? I do not speak Polish, I only filled in the form letter. Sarah Christiansen

In response to Flora's questions.....
Did Miriam transcribe just the indexed years or has she created indicesfor those years where such indices do not exist?Miriam doesn't even look at the index. She painstaking reviewed each individual record and recorded the information. As anyone would know who has looked at the Warszawa LDS films, the indexing is very poor. Sometimes you will come upon an index but it only covers letters G-K. What happened to the rest? Is it the fault of that 19th Century clerk or the 20th Century microfilmer? I don't know the answer. Among the names in Warsaw that I am primarily researching isI assume that you have searched the JRI-Poland database for these names. The surname GESUNDHEIT is the name of the Chief Rabbi of Warsaw. He was a native of Warsaw and died in 1878. Keep searching! Hadassah Lipsius Kew Gardens Hills, NY
