Jewish Genealogical Society Meetings

Is there a policy, and if so, what is it, regarding the holding of Society meetings on Jewish holidays? I have noticed numerous times that meetings or activities are held either on Shabbat or lesser celebrated Jewish holidays such as the upcoming Shemini Atseret. This is disconcerting to those of us who are excluded from participating.

Who would set such a policy? The only thing uniting individual societies is the IAJGS and it does not set rules for its member societies. Each sets its own rules, presumably in accordance with its own members wishes.
