People did what they could to survive!
I have a document written in green ink in which an official of the Russian
Orthodox Church in Paris swore that my father's cousin was Russian Orthodox
& that he personally knew her parents as diligent practioners. NOT!
There's 2 pages on his letterhead, one in French, & one in Russian. I have
no idea how many of these he wrote & what the survival rate was. But my
father's cousin did make it to Cuba & >from there to the US.
One of the most notorious examples is Erhard Milch, an official in the
Luftwaffe, about whom his mother wrote that all her children were sired by
her non-Jewish uncle. In his case, yes it definitely worked.
