Belarus SIG #Belarus Research in the 1950s-1960s #belarus

Supposedly, my great-grand uncle had a professional lineage report
done. I assume it would have been done in the 1950s-1960s but no one
knows what happened to it. Right now I have the family in Ukraine,
south of Kiev. According to my family, this report traced the family
back to a small town near Minsk. The surnames I'm researching are all
common in the Minsk area. What are the chances that a professional
genealogist in the Soviet Union in these years would have been able to
create a detailed family tree? I've always heard that the Soviet
government didn't look kindly on genealogy research because it was too
much about the individual vs the state. Is it more likely that this
report might have just traced the origin of the names?

Thanks for any comments.
