Bessarabia SIG #Bessarabia Yizkor Book Project, June 2013 #bessarabia
Lance Ackerfeld <lance.ackerfeld@...>
Shalom,
As 2013 rolls on, the number of translations that we deal with in the Yizkor Book Project continues to grow snowball-style. The projects updated this last month include some very substantial additions and for some of these, we are rapidly moving forward in our ultimate goal to see these community books completely translated. In order to see these books translated, an integral part of the process is the raising funds to pay for the professional translation of these books. Logically, many coordinators have selected upon setting up Translation Funds dedicated to this very aim. In recent times, a number such funds have been set up to raise financial support for the following books: Brody, Ukraine (An Eternal Light: Brody in Memoriam) Ozerna, Ukraine (Memorial book of Jezierna) Tarnow, Poland (The life and decline of a Jewish city) If you would like to financially support one of these projects or the other 70 odd we have set up, please go to http://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/v_projectslist.asp?project_cat=23 for further details. In regards the Translations Funds, we are looking for a volunteer with ideas and initiative (and time) to take on the task of Translation Funds Publicity Coordinator. His or her task will be to help bring about greater exposure to the important objectives we have in mind with the Translation Funds, with the goal of obtaining more funding for them. If you believe you fit the bill, I'd be very pleased to hear >from you. At this time, we are also looking for a volunteer to manage the Yizkor Book Master Name Index (YBMNI) which was set up to help create an index of all persons mentioned in the translated portions of the Yizkor Books on the JewishGen Yizkor Book Project website. Over the last few years, Osnat Hazan has very capably coordinated this project and for all the work she has done up until now, I am extremely grateful. Since Osnat is stepping down, we are now looking for someone to take this on and would be very happy to hear from someone who would like to be involved in this direction. Our belief is that the YBMNI is an important researcher's tool and for more information on it, please see: http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/Yizkor/Names/ Now to facts and figures for June, during this last month we have added these 3 new projects: - Markuszow, Poland (The destruction and heroism of the town of Markuszow) http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/Markuszow/Markuszow.html - Mezhirichi, Ukraine (Mezhiritch-Wolyn;
