JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Researching OBSTBAUM family from Warsaw #general

Dear list memebers,

I am trying to find information on my great grandfather, David OBSTBAUM,
born about 1843 in Warsaw, who left Poland between 1872 and 1878 for
London, with his family consisting of:

- Rose BERKWOOD or BERGHOLTZ (his second wife) born about 1852 in Warsaw

- Millie (anglicized name I imagine), born around 1866 in Warsaw (daughter
of his first marriage)

- Louis, born about 1872 in Warsaw

and possibly
- Phillip, born about 1875, place of birth unknown.

The data I have comes >from the British census of 1881, and I would like to
find information on the family prior to his departure >from Poland. There
the family took on the name of Hobsbaum and later Hobsbawn.

1) Has anybody come across any OBSTBAUMs in their research, or even better,
in their family?

2) Where and How could I start my research in Poland? I'd love to find out
who old David's parents were, who his first wife was, why they left, as
well as scads of other questions come which to mind!

I live in Santiago, Chile, so the problem is just a little more
complicated...

Thank you for your help,

Leslie Pollak
