Trying to find my grandfathers and great-grandfathers families in Hungarian records #hungary

amy.winter@...

I have done alot of searching but cannot get very far on any of the ancestry sites (myheritage; ancestry; geni; etc.) and even had a Hungarian genealogist (amateur) look into it in Budapest. He said there are no records before 1851 and that was all he could do.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would be grateful. I have located their places of residence and many family names, but to no avail.

Thank you and be well, amy

For starters, JewishGen's Hungary Database has over 1.7 million records to peruse.  Currently, we are transcribing Budapest and Pest-Pilis-Solt Jewish Census records covering the years 1781 to 1846.  So far, we have 10,000 records transcribed, and hope to have the project completed by the end of  September 2020.  These records came from the Hungarian National Archives in Budapest.

Your Hungarian genealogist is definitely an amateur!  There are plenty of records.  JewishGen has already been cited.  Try FamilySearch as well.  In fact, even Google can come up with useful information.  See if you can find collateral lines in your family that are more unusual names than the ones you've listed.  Also try alternative spellings, like Strausz, Weisz, etc.
