Seeking information on Cohen & Shapiro families from Podu Iloaiei & Iasi, Romani #bessarabia #romania

My grandmother Ethel (Gittel) Cohen emigrated to Montreal as a young girl on the SS Montezuma on July 10th 1910 with her mother Ida (nee Shapiro) and siblings to join their father Moses Cohen. She later married Harry Boyarsky in Montreal. I am looking for birth records etc in Romania and would welcome any suggestions. Strangely Itzik Schwartz-Kara's 'The Jewish Community in Podu Iloaiei' does not list anyone with the names Cohen or Shapiro.
Any help or advice would  be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Nicholas Boyarsky

Nicholas,
My great-grandmother, Devora Cohen, is from Iasi or a smaller town nearby.  Cohen was Anglicized in Canada from Koniac.  I understand there are cousins in Israel that spell it Koniec.  You might try those spellings (Let me know if you have success with those) or other sorta-kinda phonetically close names.

Hello Nicholas:
My family is from Stefanesti, a small town very close to Podu Iloaiei. My great uncle came to Montreal from Romania in 1908 and began a successful suit factory, which is still in business today ( Jack Victor and Sons).  My grandparents followed and settled in Montreal in 1938.  I now live in the US but grew up in Montreal.

I have scanned the document about the Jewish Community in  Podu Iloaiei.  I found a reference there to a Ghershen Cohn, under the Communal life section:
Also, my grandmother's cousin was a Kohn - I wonder if we are related? Aline Petzold

"GHERSEN COHN: born in 1868, in his youth he was active in the press as the editor of Di Yiddisher Tzukunft (1899)."
