Hi Ettie
My great grandfather was Lewis Segal, whose original name was Leib Segalovich and was from Vilna. His parents were Abram and Tzvia Segalovich. I can go back a bit further. Lewis was in the UK in time for the 1891 census, aged 17. Regards Terry Ashton Australia

My grandmother's maternal family were ZIV. However, the only location that I know of for them is Moletai (Malat), which doesn't seem to be near any of your locations of interest.

I have three sets of Segals in my family, though for all I know they may be connected, distantly. They're all in-laws, so I don't know a whole lot about them as I generally don't put in-laws in my tree. Only one of them was born in Lithuania, though (the others were born in NY and Northumberland in the UK). The one born in Lithuania was Isaac Segal, born in Rietavas in 1899, which is part of the Kaunas district. He married my cousin Esther Kallner from Zemiacu who died in the Holocaust. I currently don't know if they had any children.

My bubbie, Zlata Jermulowski/e was from Lozdzieje which was taken over by Poland as it was on the border between Lithuania and Poland, was born in 1884. Her mtDNA haplogroup is W1h. She met out Zayda, Nathan Abraham Goldfoot (had been Goldfus in Lithuania) in Idaho in the mountains of Council and they married in Boise and stayed in Council until after their first son was born who was my uncle. I have found a long line of Goldfus in Telsiai (Telz) but can't find Jermulowski/e at all. Her father was Joshua Charles "Hatzkel" Isaiahel Jermulowskie. Answering b_nye008@.... Nadene Goldfoot

Have Siegels in the USA who were Segals in Lithuania. While I always think Moletai, there seemed to be a record that for a bit lived in Salakas, Zarasai, Kaunas in earlier generations. Also the last ancestors of my branch in Lithuania were likely Leybe Segal married to Dvora Leya Fein. Marriage certificates in USA say the mom was Lena Fine but that couple was only I could find and names make sense based on headstones in US and who every one was "bar" and "bat". Leyba's father was Schmuel Segal. Love to know his wife name. Somewhere in there all hook to a "winer" family or "fanger" family but can't find connection.
Thanks!

In my most recent discovery, I learned I too have connections to this area…
My Bliedens came from Zagare; there are some from Panevėžys, whom I am still trying to figure out if they are part of my family as well….

My father's family immigrated to the United
States from Lithuania. Names include Plotkin/Plotnik, Block,
Segal, Kaminsky, Ginsberg, Mandelstein, and Friedman -- in
addition to Goldberg, which allegedly was acquired during the
process of leaving Lithuania, but I'm not sold on that story. .
Perhaps more significantly, his paternal side lived in Chicago, Akron, Pittsburgh, and Johnstown PA. Maternal, Cleveland and Kansas City. The early immigrants seemed to stay in family clusters, and since many of my names are common, locations can provide extra clues. JoAnne

BLOCH, SEGAL, FRIDMAN, KAMINSKY, PLOTNIK/KIN -- LIthuania
GOLDSCHMIDT, HAMMERSCHLAG,HEILBRUNN, REIS(S), EDELMUTH, ROTHSCHILD, SPEI(Y)ER -- Hesse, Germany
