Town in Hungary KOMIDAT (UNGAR) #hungary

Jackie Wasserstein

I am researching my friend's grandparents.  Her paternal grandfather states on his Declaration of Intention that he came from KOMIDAT (UNGAR). Hungary.  Anybody know where this is?  I checked Jewishgen and could not find any towns with those names.
Thank you.

Here is information on a town with a similar name in Hungarian:

https://kehilalinks.jewishgen.org/Uzhhorod/
Uzhhorod was called Ungvar in Hungarian, which covered most of its history of the past 100 years.

Good luck -

Dear Jackie,

I would think the place you mentioned might be Magyarkomjat in the Subcarpathian area, now in Ukraine

https://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magyarkomj%C3%A1t

https://kehilalinks.jewishgen.org/velikiye_komyaty/

The name translates as "Hungarian Komjat". "Ungar" might mean Hungarian, J was mispelled as "MI".

I drove through it several times.

Cheers,
Gyorgy

What is the surname of your friend's grandparents.  I've done lots of research on MagyarKomyat (Velikiye Komyati) and might be able to help you.

Any chance of a link or image? Declarations are generally handwritten... Also, what's the date on this Declaration? Is it before or after the first world war?

_Comitat_ is used in German for "county", and there was a county named Ung with a city named Ungvár in it, which many people found confusing.
