Missing Manifest for Joseph CAPSON (KAPSON) #russia
MARC M COHEN
Dear Rachelle,
This may seem like an oddball suggestion, but you can look for their WWI draft registration cards, available on Ancestry.com and perhaps elsewhere. These cards (1917-1918) give place and date of birth, current address, and family contact.
Best of luck,
Marc

I am looking for a missing manifest for Joseph CAPSON (KAPSON). Birthdate May 10, 1885. His Naturalization papers in 1927 say he came on the ship named Main(e) from Bremen to New York on Jan 26, 1906. fro Sobolinka Russia. When researching this ship on the Ellis Island website, I found that the Maine did not sail internationally during that year. It was stricktly US based travel. His 1910 census says he came in 1904. In 1908 he was living in Newark NJ and in 1911 Cleveland OH. where his daughter Elsie Capson was born on March 5th. I cannot find any records on the family in OH at all either. His brother Julius Capson, came under the name Berka Balta per his naturalization record. I found his manifest listed as Berka Batta. He came on the ship New York Jan 15, 1905. from Sobolivka Russia via Southampton and is listed as going to a cousin Lewis Gross at 201 Charlton Street Newark NJ- same city where Joseph was headed. I cannot find info info on Lewis Gross at that address either to see how they were related. Any help on solving these problems would be greatly appreciated.
