Seeking descendants of Dorothy (Dora) FINKEL + Maurice KRAMER #usa

Dorothy FINKEL was born in Philadelphia to Joseph and Sarah.

Maurice KRAMER was born in Manchester, England to Reuben and Rachel.

They married ca. 1930 in New York.

There are two ship manifests listing Dora Kramer & two children, Joyce and Michael Philip (1940 UK to US and 1944 US to UK) but I am not certain it is the right family.

Any leads are appreciated.

Please  help others by responding to the group and listing  all related names, conjectures, speculations, etc.

Hi Boris,

On the 1940 census there is a Dorothy & Morris KRAMER living in Brooklyn.
She is 30, born Pennsylvania, bookbinder in printing shop.
He is 36, born England, operator on ladies dresses.
They have no children.
Living with them is their niece Ethel GOODMAN, 17, born Pennsylvania, salesgirl in department store.

Perhaps knowing where they lived in April 1930, and that no children are listed as living with them, will help you figure out if the person you found on the manifest is the one you seek, or not.

Regards,

Sherri Bobish

Ancestry has an image of the birth record of Dora Finkle, born 30 Sept 1906 in Philadelphia to Joseph Finkle and Sarah Axlerod. This information is a reasonable match to Dorothy Finkel's on her 1930 NYC marriage record, extracted on FamilySearch: born 1909 in Philadelphia, parents Joseph Finkel and Sarah Axlerod. On the other hand, Dora Kramer on the July 1940 manifest does not appear to be the same woman: she was reportedly born in London in 1897; her husband (mentioned on the second page of the manifest) was Harry; and her son Michael was 10, so probably born before Dorothy Finkel married.

Also on Ancestry: the WWII draft registration card of Maurice Kramer, born 29 Jan 1904 Manchester, England; wife Dorothy; address 1647 Union St., Brooklyn. Possibly he was the Maurice Kramer, 39, 1470 Sterling Pl., Brooklyn, who naturalized in Eastern District court in Dec. 1943. You might want to order a copy of his Petition ($10) via NARA Order Online (https://eservices.archives.gov/) once service there is resumed.

Both 1647 Union Street and 1470 Sterling Place are within a mile or so of Prospect Place, the address on the 1940 census that Sherri Bobbish found. BTW, I found that census on FamilySearch after Sherri mentioned it; it didn't show up on Ancestry.

The Social Security Death Index lists a Dorothy Kramer born 30 Sept 1906. She died in Nov 1977; last residence: Brooklyn NY 11235. A Dorothy Kramer with these dates is on FindaGrave; she's buried at Floral Park Cemetery in South Brunswick, NJ. A photo of her grave is included (see attachment); father's name is hard to make out, but it doesn't look like Yosef.

Also in the SSDI: a Maurice Kramer who was born on 29 Jan 1904 and died on 14 Dec 2001; his last residence was also Brooklyn 11235. No Morris/Maurice Kramer who died in 2001 is on FindaGrave.
