Can someone please give me the link to search for people buried in Mt. Sharon Cemetery, Springfield, Delaware County PA 1980. I’m trying to find the burial of my greatgrandmother Yetta Garfinkel Theil 1878-1980. Her death certificate says Mt Sharon

Mt. Sharon does not seem to have a website, so searching for any interments there which are not on the general cemetery databases (Find-a-Grave, Billion Graves, etc) cannot be done from your computer. Approximately 7 years ago, I stopped by there to make inquiry regarding an interment of interest, and was told by the caretaker that the office guy/gal was out on an errand and would not return until the afternoon.
Following an unproductive walk through the cemetery as the heat increased on the hot summer day, I then walked the 3 kilometers to Mr. Lebanon Cemetery, which also had (and apparently still has) no online accessible data of its own, but the office was staffed and the personnel there were quite helpful.

It might help if you include the location of the Mt Sharon and Mt Lebanon cemeteries you were talking about. There are several Jewish Mt Sharons that come up in a google search and many more that are obviously not Jewish. I found that while Mt. Lebanon in Glendale (Queens) NY doesn't have much presence on Find a Grave, it does have a website of it's own and includes a search engine for those buried there. Adding a cemetery to FAG is easy. First find the complete name of the cemetery, including previous names. Go to FAG's page, hit Cemeteries in the top menu bar. There are two choices below the "search for cemeteries". One is Add a Cemetery, the other is Browse by Location. Do try to browse by location because often the missing cemetery is there under another name. If it isn't, then hit the Add a Cemetery and fill out as much as possible. If there's an office where the clerk is missing, ask for a business card and enter the information on it. If you add a burial or two that will get things started. I support Find a Grave because they are mostly volunteer and a handy place to start searching when you don't have much money. You get out what you put in.

As noted in the discussion thread (which seems to have been excluded from the particular JewishGen Discussion Group Digest installment), the relevant Mount Sharon Cemetery is in Springfield Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, USA, North America, Planet Earth, Solar System, Milky Way Galaxy.
The relevant Mt. Lebanon Cemetery is nearby in Collingdale, Delaware County, etc. (at least the office is in Collingdale; most of the land is located in Darby Township, Delaware County, etc.).

Mt. Lebanon and Mt.Sharon cemeteries in Delaware County are right across the street from each other. My parents are buried in Mt. Sharon, my husband's family is buried in Mt. Lebanon. There's generally someone in the office at both locations in the morning hours. I can try to get you phone numbers for both.

Dena and Hadar, I wish to borrow your map!
Because per the map I am using (GoogleMaps) and my personal ambulation experiences, Mt. Sharon is approximately 2.63 kilometers northwesterly from Mt. Lebanon (in the latter of which I have a grandmother, 2 great-grandmothers, and a g-g-grandmother).
Mount Jacob is across Oak Lane from Mount Lebanon (at least according to my map). And on its other side (per my map, at least), Mt. Lebanon abuts Har Zion Cemetery (where I have a g-uncle); Mt. Lebanon and Har Zion have interconnecting driveways and apparently are maintained by the same maintenance crew.
Please apprise how I can access your map.

Ken is correct. Mt Jacob is across from Mt Lebanon which backs onto Har Zion. Mt Sharon is about a mile and a half away. I have relatives in all 4 cemeteries.

Amusing story.
About 15 years ago went looking for Mt Lebanon Cemetery and drove in via Har Zion without knowing it. Found connecting road to Mt Lebanon, found my family plots. Went to office to ask where Har Zion was. They didn't know! Thanked them anyway, found the connecting road and then the office. Asked the elderly gentleman "is this Har Zion Cemetery "? He replied "I should hope so, I've been here 40 years!". Hope this is appropriate for this group. |
