Searching records in New Haven, Connecticut #records
Shelly Crane
Hello,
I am researching my husband's maternal family who immigrated to New Haven (and surrounding areas), Connecticut in the 1890s and remained for several generations. Anyone have suggestions locating older death, birth, marriage certificates, naturalization records, obituaries? Many of his relatives are buried at Congregation Bnai Jacob Cemetery. Is anyone going there by chance, who can take pictures?
His Great Grandfather was Israel Noah Halper (born 1860s and died 1915) married to Rose Nee Mattes. I believe he was the son of William and Hannah, who also lived in New Haven. Trying to prove that as my first step.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi Shelly, Take a look at the Connecticut page of Cyndi's List for a good overview of what's available in each category of records: https://www.cyndislist.com/us/ct/ www.familysearch.org is a good place to start your research. They have a large number of databases, i.e. U.S. census, and so much more. It is a free site. When you find Israel Noah Halper on the census (as a child, assuming he was living in his parents home) you will see who his parents are. Regards, Sherri Bobish Princeton, NJ

The city directories may well have information about the family. I was able to follow my great-grandparents for the years they were in New Haven from 1900-1903. Actually also noted that they left for New York in 1903.
