C- Files - US Naturalization Index care - what info on it? #general

Hi,
Are you familiar with the ordering process for a c-file? It seems you need to first request an "index search" and then a "record request". However, if I have the c-File and a-File numbers from the index available at Ancestry or FamilySearch, can I just order the c-file directly, skipping the "index search" and the fees associated with it?

If you have the C-file number, then you can skip the initial index search and go straight to a request for records.  However, see this cautionary note about errors locating file numbers:  https://www.uscis.gov/history-and-genealogy/genealogy/genealogical-records-help/avoid-common-genealogical-research-errors
