Schewach family in Bialystok #poland

I am looking for records on Josef Pinchas Schewach (@1865-@1922),  his wife Ethel Kletinitski Borrison (@1865-?), and their children, Chai Schewach (1885-1936), Dore Schewach (1889-1964),  Borukh Schewach (1891-1941, and Rebeckah Schewach (1892-1950).  All of the children were born in Bialystok, Poland and came to the US.  Ethel and Joseph might have originally come from Belarus in the Grodno area (Luuna?).  Their immigration records (1905-1908) to NYC indicate the last city they lived in was also Bialystok.

Dear Loryn:

I am the Bialystok area coordinator for JRI-Poland. I have searched our online database that includes all Bialystok Jewish vital records though 1905 including the years 1885-1892 and cannot find any records of the children of Josef and Ethel. There are many SZEWACH record indices both online and in our offline collection covering years after 1905. These record indices are not yet in our online collection. The closest I find is a 1907 birth of Ber KLATNICKI son of Abram ben Aron/Boruch from Lopenice/Wolkowysk and Pesza SZEWACH daughter of Iosel.

It is very possible that the family lived in Bialystok before immigration and the children were born elsewhere. Have you found any US records with town of birth for the children?

Dear Loryn

My paternal grandmother was Rose (Risha) Schewachs 1884-1939. She came to UK to marry Barnett Cohen (originally Baruch Kunyen) who I believe was a cousin and came from Vitepsk area. Her father was Yitshak Dov Ber Schuewachs. Rose had a sister Kayla who also came to UK and married and a brother whose name I do not know.
Do these names mean anything to you.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for letting me know and for your help. Abram ben Aron/Boruch KLATNICKI  was Ethel's brother.  We don't know how Pesza SZEWACH daughter of Iosel is related. Where is  Lopenice in relation to Wolkowysk?  Was there a birth location for Pesza?  Was there any additional documents for Aron/Boruch KLATNICKI.

I have the immigration and naturalization records for Boruch Schewach.  He was born in August of 1891 in Bialystock and immigrated in December 1910. Boruch's last residence was Bialystok. His father Josel was listed as a relative.  Josef's location was Grodno.

Would you be able to check this document from Bialystok?  It makes me wonder if Josel and Ethel had a child that passed away.  The dates would match and there is a time-lapse between siblings of 1885 and 1889.  Thank you.

I cannot answer your other questions about the Klatnicki family. If there is no record, there is no data. We have indexed all the 1891 Bialystok births and all the years around 1891 and there is no Boruch born then. That means his birth was not recorded or he was born in a nearby town and not in Bialystok. Maybe you need to look closer in Grodno or Volkovysk. Use the JewishGen Belarus database for those areas.

Best regards,
Mark
