My Father Leopold Haar arrived (later known as Leslie Hare in the English Army of the Pioneer Corps) at the Kitchener Camp for aliens on 23/05/1939, can anyone tell me who may have known him how he came to England? Thank you.

Hi Sherri and thank you for your response, yes I have the Move Here information but it doesn’t state how / where my Father came from to England, hence my request through Jewishgen.
kind regards Peter

Peter,

I am not familiar with the rules for the U.K., but to come to the U.S. at that time period one needed a visa issued by the U.S.  Perhaps Leopold needed a visa for the U.K., and that paperwork would shed light on how he came to England?

Did Leopold naturalize in the U.K.?  In the U.S. naturalization papers (especially post-1906 give good entry data.)  His naturalization papers may contain some clues.

Sherri Bobish

Peter, have you contacted World Jewish Relief, they have an archive of all the records for refugees that they helped prior to and after WWII, see the following https://www.worldjewishrelief.org/about-us/your-family-history
They have the records for about 55000 Jewish Refugees who came to the UK, including the family of Jerry Springer.
