Polish town Cewck or Cewek #poland
jef barnett
On a ship’s manifest the city of birth was noted as Cewck ( could be Cewek) Poland . Any ideas what the town this was referring to? I expected the birth town to be Rozan so it might be very close Jef Barnett BANDRYMER, KRASKA , BULMAN, GROSSMAN, GRUNZPAN, NOWAK,and all spelling variations |

This is most probably place Cewkow (Tsevkuv) in Cieszanow district. There are two entries for this location in JGFF database.
This town had 2,700 residents, including 135 Jewish souls registered during 1921 census Alexander Sharon JGFF editor |

Replying to David Rosen suggestion regarding Cewice:
Cewice (Zewitz) was not in Poland prior to the end of WWII. This region: Pomorze (German: Pomerania) was allocated by USSR to Poland as the compensation for the lost lands in the East. It appears that the suggested by me town name Cewkow might be also incorrect since according to Jef, the searched locality should be located within Rozan (Ostroleka region) vicinity. The suggested Cewkow location is in historical Galicia. Alexander Sharon JGFF editor |

Jef, If you think that Cewek is near Rozan than try this search. Go to: https://www.jewishgen.org/Communities/Search.asp and, search for Rozan. Then look at the page for Rozan and see all the towns listed within a 30 mile radius. See if one of those towns could be Cewek. Keep in mind that most towns had name variants in several languages, including Yiddish. Clicking on the town name in the radius list will take you to a page that lists all the town name variants. Regards, Sherri Bobish |
