Jewish Schools in 1880’s in Manchester #unitedkingdom

My great uncle David Isaacs writes in his diaries that he and his siblings attended St. Luke’s Primary School in Cheetham, North Manchester in 1888. He also mentions attending the Jews School in Cheetham, North  Manchester In 1891. Does anyone have information about these schools or can tell me if there are any records of attendance at these schools? Thank you

Thanks for bringing up this question. I am interested in North Manchester Jewish life in the 1880s too. I just tried Google-ing both schools and there is related info. at several sites. Here is one:

Joan Baronberg, Denver, CO, USA
Suchostow, Ukraine; Manchester, UK
Master, Mester, Weisser, Friedman

Try the Manchester Jewish Museum website. The museum's currently closed, but there's probably someone checking mail.

As far as the Jewish School in Manchester is concerned has records in it's education category.
The record set is National School Admission Registers & Log-Books 1870-1914
You need to subscribe to see them but you can have a free two week trial if you haven't subscribed before.
I'm assuming you can access this website from Israel.
It may be this record set is available elsewhere.

Hope this helps.

You can also obtain school records from Manchester City Council's Library and Archive Service where I obtained the attendance records for my family's Abrahams/Abrams children some years ago. Some of these records may be the ones now online at Findmypast.

The Manchester Jewish Genealogical Society may be able to help you - see via the Jewish Genealogical Society of Great Britain website.

There is a book called They Came from the Haim: History of Manchester Jewry from 1867. This is written by one of my relatives and will cover lots of the topics you are looking for. The Jews school was in Derby Street, Cheetham Hill and my late grandmother and her siblings were pupils. There are lots of links providing information regarding the school. Hope you find this useful. regards Suzanne Vincent Jeffery
