I have an 1884 Budapest marriage record that identifies the bridegroom's place of birth as Vaniovice, Galicia. His parents, both deceased, lived in Sambor, now Sambir, Ukraine. I've checked the JewishGen communities database and gazetteer and can't find any place by that name near Sambor. Any suggestions?

Gesher Galicia's Galician Town Locator
(https://www.geshergalicia.org/galician-town-locator/) lists a good
possibility -- Waniowice, in the Jewish administrative district of
Sambor. Chances are that it's the place that Google Maps calls
Van'ovychi and the JewishGen Gazetteer lists as Van’ovitse -- about 5
miles southwest of Sambor/Sambir, Ukraine.

Both the All Galicia Database (https://search.geshergalicia.org) and
Jewish Records Indexing-Poland (jri-poland.org) have records for this
town.
