Charge for JewishGen? We Disagree! #JewishGenUpdates

Avraham Groll

Dear JewishGen Community,

Some feel we should always charge for JewishGen's services.
We completely disagree. JewishGen was founded upon the principles that Jewish family history should always be freely accessible - and we don’t intend to change that. But we do need your help.

Next week, we will face our final and largest fundraising deadline of the year. Over the past few weeks, many members of the JewishGen community have donated what they can - some donations were in excess of $1,000 and some as modest as $10. Each gift was important. Can you help us as well?

This is a critical moment, and we don't take your support for granted. Particularly in this tough economy, we realize how difficult it must be to donate to "yet another" worthy organization (and there are many out there). But it's precisely for this reason that we hope you will be able to support us - as we are an organization offering  millions of Jewish records online, along with historical and contextual information - - and at no cost (not to mention our other extraordinary tools and resources).

Thousands of people have joined JewishGen this year. Please help us continue our mission of "preserving our Jewish history for current and future generations" by making a tax deductible (for US residents) gift right now. With a new feature enabled just LAST NIGHT, you can now dedicate your gift in honor/memory of someone.

Credit Card contributions can be submitted on our secure website by clicking here. (Gifts of $100 qualify for Premium Features). If you prefer to donate by check, please make it payable to JewishGen and send it to:
JewishGen/Fall Appeal
36 Battery Place
New York, NY 10280
USA

Thank you for your support - we appreciate it.

P.S. -- Your donation will go further now than it will in January. That's because it will immediately help us reach our fundraising goals for this month and year. And don't forget that gifts of $100 or more will grant you access to enhanced database search capabilities, enrollment in our online genealogy course and other extra features. Please donate now!

I appreciate JewishGen being free for all.  I use it often and sent my donation to support your work.
While Amazon Smile is a nice addition, at a rate of 0.5% per purchase, one would have to spend $20,000 to equal a $100 donation.

I am a paying member of Jewish Gen. and have been so for many years.  I agree with your suggestion to continue offering your services for free.

Your dedication and contribution that all of you, including Phillis Kramer ז״ל, have done and still doing at the Jewish Gen organization are much appreciated.
