Manifest Mystery #names

Lawrence Weintraub

Neither "Yrlja" or "Irlja" generated an idea for me for a Yiddish name (not that I am an expert) or a likely American one.  She was going to a brother, B. Edelstein at 15 Genesee Street in Boston.  Attempts to utilize the 1910 Census or the 1906 Boston City Directory did not prove helpful.

Thanks,

Lawrence,

I did a quick search in this Ancestry database:
Massachusetts, U.S., Marriage Records, 1840-1915
and found:
Anna Adelstein marrying Jacob Kaplan in Boston in 1910.

Her father is Samuel, mother Esther Skedavitz.  Address: 202 Bremen St.

Anna gives her age as 23 in 1910, and her age is 23 on the 1906 manifest, but most people at that time did not know their exact age, and the ladies always made themselves younger.

Could this be the lady you seek?

Regards,

Sherri Bobish

I read the first name as "Yrlja."  I was unable to enlarge this enough to read the brother's name.

Hello all,

I am curious about the young woman who accompanied Schaje Adelstein (my ggf Samuel Edelstein) on the SS Smolensk arriving in NYC from Libau on 14 September 1906.  She is listed on line 19 of the manifest as "Yrlja" or Irlja" Adelstein.  Is anyone familiar with such a given name?  What might it become in the US?  I also have been unable to find the brother "B. Adelstein" she was going to join in Boston at the address cited
I would appreciate any help with these two mystery ancestors.  Thank you.
