NYC Police Reports #records

Sherri Bobish

Carl,

If they married in NYC you can use this free search to find her husband's full name:
NYC Marriage License Index 1950-1995
https://stevemorse.org/vital/nymarriages-rec.html

If they married in NYC before 1950 you can try this database on Ancestry, or if you have access to Ancestry just try this one since it covers more years:
NYC Marriage Licenses 1907-1995
https://stevemorse.org/vital/nymarriages-anc.html?range=1

You can also use these databases to see if her husband re-married.

Good luck in your search,

Sherri Bobish

You may want to try the cemetery and funeral home. Jewish ones don't always keep more records but the non Jewish cemeteries and funeral homes usually do have information. I am guessing you hare checked death notices.  Why not try to locate their home address and if it is important to you it is possible a neighbour may still be there who would give you a clue.

I have obtained police reports by first getting the death certificate. In unusual circumstances, there is a Medical Examiner report. The death certificate will have "M.E." and a number. Order the Medical Examiner Report from Dept. of Health with this number. In that report, you should find a copy of the police report.
Best of luck!

My experience with police departments is that none of them keep records
beyond a few decades. It seems really strange that law enforcement does
not keep these records in an archive, but I've never encountered any that
do.

Carl Kaplan

I found a newspaper article from 1961 that records the death by suicide, in the Bronx, of a cousin of mine. That branch of my family is not well documented, and I don't have any contacts. The article states that she had an infant son (no listing of her husband's name), so I am hoping a police report would have more information. This should help me fill in more family tree blanks. Any idea where I can obtain that? NYPD is very large, so I am hoping someone might have the contact info of a specific department. Thanks.
