Help with a Montefiore Cemetery photo #usa #photographs

Peter Cohen

Most New York City cemeteries will photograph a gravestone for a small fee. Contact the cemetery office.

Findagrave.com has 2,191 outstanding photo requests for Montefiore, as of this morning. You have almost zero chance of having a request fulfilled through findagrave for one of the big NYC cemeteries. Works great in other places, though.

You can also ask the cemetery if they have a next of kin with address or telephone mumber.
They won’t give it to you but they will either send a letter from you or even call and ask permission to give you the information.

I have done this twice successfully

David, have you tried findagrave.com yet?  I use it all the time including Montefiore.  In fact, I have outstanding requests there.  Include the location and ask specifically for a closeup of the Hebrew name so it is readable.

Hope this helps.

You can try calling the cemetery - they might have that information on file. Or you can ask if someone can take a picture of the tombstone. Many cemeteries are accommodating although they might charge a small fee. You might also ask for the Death Certificate number - you can get copy at NY Health Dept  - https://www1.nyc.gov/site/doh/services/death-certificates.page

David S STERN

After years of banging my head against a brick wall regarding the death and burial of my great uncle, Rabbi
David STERN, after whom I was named, I have had a breakthrough.  I now know that he died in Queens Memorial Hospital on June 21, 1954, and is buried in Montefiore Cemetery.  I am hoping that someone may be able to assist me with a photograph of his matzeva.  I need it to confirm the name of his father and my great grandfather.

The location in the Springfield Gardens section is:

Block:

204

Row:

001R

Grave:

1

Section:

Plot:

8

Thanks for any assistance!
