Question About a Royal Warrant (UK) #unitedkingdom
There is a family legend that my great-great-grandfather, Israel Cohen, had a Royal Warrant issued by Queen Victoria to allow him, a cobbler, to repair shoes for the royal family. Legend also says that this Warrant may have been obtained by Israel’s daughter, my great-grandmother, Rebecca Cohen. This claim seems a bit far-fetched to me, but it’s worth exploring. I would be grateful for anyone who can point me sources where I can confirm or deny this legend. Is there a database/list of Royal Warrants?
(1) Israel Cohen was born c. 1864 in Poland and died in 1910 in New York. Israel arrived in the U.K. c. 1891 and left for New York (via St. Johns, N.B.) in February 1901 on the S.S. Lake Ontario, with the entire family.
(2) Rebecca Cohen was born in the U.K. in 1892 (perhaps June). Rebecca left for New York, as above, in Feb. 1901.
(3) Israel and his wife Anna were married in Poland. They had five children, all of whom were born in the U.K., Rebecca (1892), Jenny (1894), Gertrude (1896), Benjamin (1900), and Rose (1901).
(4) I have nothing about the Cohen family's stay in the U.K. from c. 1891 - Feb. 1901. I cannot find them on census information, nor can I find birth information about the five children born in the U.K.
I thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide on Royal Warrants, or otherwise.

Good luck in your search,
There is a Royal Warrant Holders Association, that goes back to the 1840s. They may be able to tell you about warrant holders from the early 1900s. There is an email address to contact them:
