The September Issue of the Galitzianer #galicia

Gesher Galicia SIG

We are delighted to announce the release of the first issue of the Galitzianer
in the new year. The Galitzianer is the quarterly research journal of Gesher
Galicia. Rich in diverse content, this new issue includes the story of
a Galician Jew whose incongruous biography includes Shakespearean
scholar, acclaimed essayist, ally to Theodor Herzl, and adviser to the
Austrian president. The journal also offers a window into the early
life of esteemed Hollywood screenwriter and director Billy Wilder, who
was born in the Galician town of Sucha. And there is a stunningly
detailed account of the Holocaust in eastern Galicia by Philip
Friedman, the father of Holocaust history.

Here is the full list of articles in this issue:
  • Research Corner: Waiting for Records by Tony Kahane
  • WWI Research in the Nachrichten by Eric Feinstein
  • Philip Friedman’s Work: “The Extermination of Jews in East Galicia” by Barbara Krasner
  • Here Lies Soap: Memorial to the Jews of Zbaraz by Susan J. Gordon
  • The Education of a Galician: The Case of Leon Kellner by Prof. David Rechter
  • The Making of Billy Wilder by Prof. Noah Isenberg
  • My Ancestral Home: Then and Now by Ronald H. Drucker
  • President’s Page: Memories of a Galitzianer Shul by Steven S. Turner
