"Bagels Over Berlin" - Documentary about Jewish WWII soldiers #announcements

On Thursday evening, The Museum of Jewish Heritage presented a documentary, Bagels Over Berlin, that told the story of the thousands of Jewish young men who volunteered, fought, and died in the Army Air Corps in World War II.  There were a disproportionately high number of Jewish fighters in relation to the number of Jews in the general population. And, the Air Corps was one of the most dangerous assignment.
The documentary includes touching, entertaining, and insightful interviews of surviving members of the Air Corps. I highly recommend it.
You can read about the film and watch the trailer at www.bagelsoverberlin.com. It is also available for rental or purchase or group viewing.
I am not affiliated with the production or promotion of the documentary.  Just a fan and sharing info.

Why were Jews over-represented?  I think it was because so many Jewish teens in the late 30's were ham radio hobbyists, and also did well on math tests.  They were over-represented in the Air Corps as radio operators and navigators, not necessarily as tail gunners.  My own cousin as a teenager was working with Lee DeForest on television in the 30's!

I am also reading a book called "When Rabbis Bless Congress" and they noted that for WWII 50% of all rabbis in the US served as chaplains in the armed forces. 50%!
