Where could I find a 1931 passenger manifest showing Hungarian passengers who landed in Brazil? #hungary #general #records
debbietheteacher@...
I am looking for Josef KLEIN and family who, in 1931, visited Brazil (probably Rio de Janiero)? Josef was coming from Budapest, Hungary, and may have embarked from Germany, but I am not sure. A passenger manifest list may yield some helpful information about Josef and the composition of his family. Thank you for suggestions.

Debbie Long,
There are two mains sources for this kind of record: 1) familysearch.org - Search for "immmigration cards" in Brazil, that are called this way but are actually consular records. 2) Arquivo Nacional (Brazilian National Archives) - Has the passenger manifest lists of almost all ships that arrived at Rio de Janeiro (1875-1963) and Santos (1891-1978). However, they are not indexed. If you know the aproximate date of arrival and/or ship name it's easy to find it. If you don't, it's like searching for a needle in a haystack. The access is free, you only need to create an account, but the site doesn't have an English version. The site is: https://sian.an.gov.br/sianex/consulta/login.asp. E-mail me privately if you need help navigating their website. Best regards, Flavio Baran
