Hello Group

I'm new to JG (although I have helped some of you
translate from Russian about 5 years ago
via soc.genealogy.jewish usenet group).

I now want to trace my family tree,
starting from a birth certificate of my
grandfather.

Not sure what to expect from this Group,
but here's what I have
(I'm a native russian speaker, so I do transliteration
as I think this should be done - please correct
if there are standard rules):

ШТЕРЕЛИХТ МИХИЛ ИСКОВИЧ
родил 20 июн 1906
м ХОДОРОВК
район КОРЖИСКИЙ
облать ЖИТОМИРСКЯ

отец ШТЕРЕЛИХТ ИСК ОВСЕЕВИЧ
еврей

мать ШТЕРЕЛИХТ ЮЛИЯ СМОЙЛОВ
еврейка

my tranlsation/transliteration:

SHTERENLIKHT MIKHAIL ISAAKOVICH
born 20 June 1906
in village (russian "м" is "мето/метечко",
which is shtetl) HODOROVKA
(which is in Volynia, and at that time could
have been also called HODORKOV).

father SHTERENLIKHT ISAAK OVSEEVICH
jew

mother SHTERENLIKHT YULIA SAMOILOVNA
jew

This is the birth certificate issued in 1957
by Ukranian Soviet authorities.
There is stamp on it

"Вотановлена запиь"

meaning "Restored entry/record"
which is obviously correct -
there must be some birth record
of him from 1906.
Where?

What I want to know is where my
great grandparents are from.

I contacted Chabad Zhitomir -
closest Chabad to Hodorkov,
to see if they have access to any
local records - waiting for a reply.

Any advice?

Thanks

There may be surprises in the form of family branches where this surname transposes into LICHTENSTEIN.  Keep your eyes open!
