Jews in Ethiopia in late 1700s #general

Sherri Bobish

Have you found any records from when they lived in Ukraine? Do you know the name of the town?  Perhaps on some vital record or revision list would be noted that one of the family was born in Ethiopia, or had lived there.

This page is interesting, although it doesn't really answer your question about Ashkenazi Jews living in Ethiopia.

This database on Ancestry has Ethiopian burials.  Put Ethiopia in the death field to search.  Perhaps you will find a family name.

For some reason my computer won't copy and paste the URL.  Google "Jews in Ethiopia in the 1700's'and you will find your answer.

I was told that my family lived in Ethiopia in the late 1700s to early 1800s.  They were a scholarly and religious family who had to leave Ethiopia because of religious discrimination.  I don’t know where they went at that point but ended up in Ukraine from which they emigrated in the early 1900s.  Does anyone have information on what brought Ashkenazi Jews to Ethiopia at that time?
