Lowenerg - Hellmann families from Talsi, latvia in South Africa #latvia #southafrica

I am trying to put together the pieces of the Lowenberg - Hellmann families in South Africa in the early 1900's.
I came across 4 Lowenberg brothers - William, Jacob, Avraham Mendel and Aharon Phillip who all seem to have been the son of Tzvi - there is also a sister Sarah Hellmann who also was the son of Tzvi - They are all from Talsi, Latvia. I know that Sarah was a brother of Rabbi Yehuda Levenberg who was a Rabbi in New Haven, USA and of Zelig Baruch Levenberg who was the last Rabbi of Talsi and was killed by the Nazis in 1941. I am looking to confirm whether these 4 Lowenbergs are sibling with each other and/or with Sarah Hellman.... Thank you Dani Brick joeymakow@...

Dani,
I am connected to Hellmanns from Talsi as well, though through the Blumberg family. My g-g-grandmother's sister, Frieda Blumberg, d/o Behr Blumberg, married a Lazar Hellmann, and had seven children, at least one born in Talsi. However, the main reason for my response is that I manage a Talsi website at https://mycourlandtowns.wordpress.com/talsi/. I welcome guest contributors to the blog, which would be an opportunity for you to share your story, photos or other info. There is also a lot of information posted on the site. Sincerely, Betsy Thal Gephart betsy@...

Hi Dani,
Avraham Mendel Lowenberg lived and died in my home town in S. Africa, Upington; his death and burial records are included on the cemetery page of the KehilaLinks site that I maintain, and the tombstone photo shows his father's name as Tzvi. I know one grandson who still lives in S. Africa and although I haven't been in touch with him for decades, I can probably get his contact information if you want to follow up privately. In response to both you and Betsy, there was a Reverend Hellman (not sure of the spelling) who served the Upington Jewish community around the 1920s. Regards, Bramie Lenhoff Newark, DE, USA
