Tracking Down a File in the US State Department #usa

DBarany

Haverim,

I found this reference on the JewishGen website. It is either for my great grandmother or great aunt (they both had the same name.)

I am not sure how to request the documents.

Jewish Names in Selected US State Department Files (RG59), 1910-1929

.

Name City Country Box # File and Document
KULMAN, Fannie New Haven, CT  USA  4305  360p.60p/2

Would these be held in the Boston Archive or the Washington DC archive ?
Is there a way to find out of these are digitized or on microfiche?

Thank you for sharing your knowledge,
Deborah Barany

Quoted from the above site, my emphasis

The original documents can be accessed in person at NARA in College Park, Maryland.  You can also send mail requests to:

Archives II
Textual Reference Branch
8601 Adelphi Road
College Park, MD 20740

Be sure to include in your correspondence all of the following:

  • RG (Record Group): 59
  • Time Segment: 1910-29
  • Box number (if given, not necessary otherwise)
  • File and Document number
  • Complete name of individual as it appears in the database (Surname and first name)

Many years before the pandemic I sent a letter and recieved paper copies of the correspondence - they were very informative - opened up a whole new branch of research.
