Hello,
An ancestor named Leib FLAMHAPT was born in Husiatyn, Austria-Hungary(Galicia) in 1882. He immigrated to the US in 1910 under that name.  When he naturalized as a US citizen in 1915 he officially changed his name to Leon FUCHS.

I am looking to understand why he might have changed his surname to FUCHS.  I do not know of other family members that were in the US at that time that were also using the surname FUCHS.  If he wanted to anglicize his surname I would have expected him to change the name to FLAM or something similar.  Any ideas are welcome.
