I did a search at The Ellis Island Database: https://stevemorse.org/ellis2/ellisgold.html for surname starting with letter A, and town starting with Polon, and came up with a possible surname for you. Even if Zissel never came to The U.S., other family members with that surname may have. You may want to look at these manifests to see who they were bound for in The U.S., and the 1922 manifest will also tell you who they left behind.

I read it as HASPESH without the first "sh". I wonder if ASPIS is really the same name and you would find records under that name.

Hi friends:
Last night the good news was I discovered my 2nd great mothers last name on my 2nd great uncles new York city 1908 marriage certificate : “Hashpesh, given name Zissel. That’s the bad news, such an unusual name. I recognize the English spelling of the name on the document is likely incorrect. Bubbe Zissel remained in Polnoyye Ukraine. Probably born around 1850. Running searches on that surname always generates the more common name “Aspis” supposed derived from Ushpitz, innkeeper.
Anyone have any thoughts on this last name??
