Looking for a First Cousin Once Removed #records #usa
Although it is a common name — and you all were so helpful— it’s clear that Sheri found the correct Anne Kaplan. the parents snd brother in the census were the same. And the draft card clinched the deal. Very cool

The daughter Sunny Lorraine Mann has an obituary in The Herald News (Passaic) of 27 December 1960. Her parents were her only survivors.
It's worth noting that in the same house in 1940 there was a David and Dora Kaplan. Could this be a relative? Finally the 1940 seems to have added 10 years to Sam's age - vs the earlier censuses. -- Paul Hattori |

I think the question is how do we know that this is the correct Anne Kaplan? Based on the information provided so far, there's nothing to show that, e.g. no marriage or death record for Anna that would show her husband's or child's name, no death record for Ida (the Sam in the 1940 census is a widower), etc.

Unfortunately, the Anne Kaplan Mann found by Barbara on the 1940 census in Paterson, NJ, living with her father Sam Kaplan, is not the correct Anne Kaplan.
On the 1940 census Sam, Ida & son Max Kaplan are living in Brooklyn at 2115 Mermaid Avenue. They briefly moved to Brooklyn and then back to NJ. I'm sure it's the correct family based on Max's occupation of working at General Motors, which matches the info in his WW11 draft card, and also the family states on the census that they were living in Elizabeth, NJ in 1935, which matches. It is difficult to search for someone when there are so many people with the same name! Best regards, Sherri Bobish |

Hello!
My apologies! I should have included Ida’s maiden name which was Paskowat/Paskovat/Pashowate. I appreciate your help. Regards, Sandy Kaplan Schepis |

What was Ida's maiden name? It would help when looking up records.

The NJ Brides Index is available online for the years you need. I checked 1939 and 1940 and both had an Anna Kaplan. My suggestion is to research all of these pairings to see if you can pinpoint one that you think is your Anna Kaplan. Then order a copy of the marriage certificate from the State of NJ archives in Trenton. Or go there yourself if you are local. They are not online.

Hello! I am searching for Annie/Anna KAPLAN, who was my first cousin once removed. Depending on where you look, she was born in 1916 or 1917 in New Jersey (maybe Elizabeth) or New York City (maybe Manhattan). Her parents were Sam and Ida, and she had a brother Max. She was a model, according to family folklore. I have found her in the 1915 NYS Census and the Federal Census for 1920 and 1930. (See links below.) She was also mentioned in her father's Petition for Naturalization. Annie/Anna seems to have disappeared after 1930. I can't find a marriage or death record. If she moved, it could have been anywhere! I wrote to her grand niece, but she has not responded. I welcome any suggestions for other angles I should cover. Thanks for your help.
