Jewish War Veteran #4 New York #usa
I finally found the right Chaim Greenberg and got his death certificate which confirms the right people.... I was able to find out where he is buried at. I got a picture. I have never seen this text on the bottom of his stone before. Would anyone know what this means? I understand that he was injured while he was a soldier for the US Army in 1930 during the U.S. Civil War. Would they have any info on Chaim's life? He was estranged from his family. The next of kin was his nephew Hyman Atotsky. Chaim is my great grandmother Shoshana's brother...

Sharon,
Chaim Greenberg was 82 or 83 when he died in 1953, so he was born around 1870. That makes him a bit too young to have served in the US Civil War. His death certificate states that he served in the Spanish American war which was in 1898, when he was in his late 20s. The inscription on his stone "Erected by East Side Post J.W.V. #4" refers to the "Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America". While Post #4 may be defunct, the organization still exists. See: https://www.jwv.org/ I hope this helps, Rodney Eisfelder Melbourne, Australia |

Ummmmm..... our Chaim D Greenberg was born in 1871 and married Cecilia Feinberg in 1915. It was their first marriage.
Chaim's father's name is David Greenberg. I will have to check into this.... Chaim would have been 12 years old in 1906 so dont think this is our Chaim Greenberg. Many thanks.... Sharon Ann Dror SharonAnnDror@... |

I wrote this was Chaim's son's marriage. Chaim was born in 1872!
Name of mother could have been wrong. Shosh Eizenshtein, Toronto |

Chaim was born in 1871-1872 while Hirch was married in 1906 at the age of 23 which means he was born in 1883...... that means Chaim was 12/13 years old....

I suggest joining Tracing the Tribe Facebook forum and posting your query there with as much information as possible. There are great volunteers there that can help you.
I cannot find a Chaim Greenberg married to Cecilia Feinberg anywhere on FamilySearch. Good luck Shosh Eizenshtein, Toronto |
