About the Talk

Naturalization is a legal procedure whereby an alien becomes a citizen. Records created before, during or after the citizenship process may provide additional understanding of the legal and societal challenges faced by immigrants. There will be a short summary of the United States naturalization process in the early Twentieth Century. The majority of the presentation includes several unusual cases whose records provide a deeper understanding of the context of our ancestors’ experiences both in the old country and in the United States.
